Scarlett Dornbrook has started a College Hunks Moving and College Hunks Hauling Junk franchise in McFarland. The business provides full service moving and junk removal services.

“Hunks” stands for honest, uniformed, nice, knowledgeable service. Dornbrook said it is these values that attracted her to the franchise.

“(College Hunks) has strong core values that I would like to bring to the area,” Dornbrook said.

Although she always worked in customer service, Dornbrook spent the last two years as a stay-at-home mom while working on a furniture refurbishing business out of her home. She spent those two years researching various business models and franchises before eventually finding and settling on College Hunks.

Although the franchise is new to Wisconsin, College Hunks has about 90 locations across the U.S. and Canada. Their services include packing, moving and junk clearing and removal. Rates vary depending on services, but moves run about $149 per hour for two College Hunks.

The company, Dornbrook said, has four core values. The first is building leaders, a concept Dornbrook finds personally important as she said she didn’t get a lot of mentorship until her 30s.

The company also focuses on branding, requiring that all employees wear uniforms – and a smile.

Third, College Hunks strives to listen, fulfill and delight, she said. Dornbrook applies this value not only to customer interaction but also to her interaction with her employees.

“I don’t like to be looked at as the boss,” she said, commenting that she tries to go out and work with her employees as much as possible.

The final core value is a focus on teamwork and creating a positive working environment. Dornbrook said she tries as much as possible to reward her employees for their work, whether with verbal praise or buying lunch.

“I’ve been really lucky to have some of the employees that I have here,” she said.

There are about 11 employees with the company so far.

“We are always hiring,” Dornbrook said.
